Toronto Star's deputy city editor, Jon Filson, takes over sports in an editorial shuffle announced today that also sees former Metro editor Dianne Rinehart join as editor of the weekend Insight section.

Star editor Michael Cooke announced Mike Simpson is leaving sports to take over multimedia operations, “to ensure that our enterprise content will be presented for fuller digital experiences.” 

Cooke notes Simpson “played a major role in developing the CANOE website for the Toronto Sun.”

There’s a shuffle in training and development, too. Cooke announced Roger Gillespie is the new assistant managing editor in charge of all visuals (photos and design), leaving training and development, responsibilities the public editor, Kathy English, will take on.

Cooke praised Rinehart’s 20 years' experience, including 18 months as editor-in-chief of Metro, English Canada, as an “energetic and creative writer and editor with a track record of innovation.” She replaces Gabe Gonda and Alf Holden at Insight.
