The Halifax edition of free daily Metro has laid off four staffers, as part of a reorganization of Metro across Canada.
The company blamed a decline in national advertising for the job losses.
Metro was launched after The Daily News folded in February, 2008.
According to a report in the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Metro Publisher Greg Lutes said the layoffs involved two reporters, one sales staff and one marketing person and that he is confident not further job cuts will be necessary.
